The legendary St. Patrick arrives in Ireland.

|
Arrival of the Normans sparks an 800 year conflict between the English and the Irish.

|
The English enforce their laws in Ireland. This upsets many of the Irish.

1649
|
Oliver Cromwell lands in Dublin. His men massacre 2,000 Irish men.

1692
|
All Catholics are excluded from Parliament .

1798
|
The young rebellion of 1798 was suppressed.

1845
|
The great potato famine. Millions leave Ireland for the Americas. Of those who stay another million die of starvation.

1919
|
The Irish war of Independence against Britain. The Anglo Irish treaty is created.

|
Ireland is split into two sections. Northern Ireland and Ireland.

A civil war breaks out between the IRA and the Free State Army.

Ireland stays neutral during World War II.

Ireland leaves the British Commonwealth.
